TaxSlayer Files Fast…and Drives Fast Too

This past weekend continued its foray into the most powerful marketing venue on earth – NASCAR. TaxSlayer’s involvement in NASCAR started in 2008 and is full steam ahead in the beginning stages of the 2011 NASCAR season. Making a switch to the NASCAR Nationwide Series has proved fortuitous for the TaxSlayer team this year as it has provided increased media exposure and fan exposure thanks to the chance to work with, and ride with, NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr. This year TaxSlayer has pairing a national marketing campaign with the marketing machine that is Dale Jr. and his NASCAR team JR Motorsports. Starting with two races on the 88 car with Aric Almirola the highlight thus far has been a 3rd place finish with Dale Jr. himself behind the wheel this past weekend in Bristol, TN at the famed Bristol Motor Speedway. The full race recap, courtesy of JR Motorsports can be found below. TaxSlayer will be on board the JR Motorsports & car for 6 more races this year with Josh Wise behind the wheel. We look forward to continuing to promote our product and look forward to some more great finishes this year.

In his second NASCAR Nationwide Series race of the year, JR Motorsports team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. paced the three-car company parade with a third-place finish in Saturday’s EZ Seed 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.  Driving the familiar red-and-black paint scheme for, Earnhardt Jr. earned his second top-five in as many races in a JR Motorsports car this season.  Aric Almirola drove the No. 88 GT Vodka Chevrolet to a 10th-place finish to record his first top-10 of 2011.  Danica Patrick’s Bristol debut went sour with a hard crash 53 laps from the end, resulting in a 33rd-place finish.   Kyle Busch earned his fourth straight Bristol victory across three series, leading all but 32 laps and beating second-place Kasey Kahne by more than a half-second.

More impressive than Earnhardt Jr.’s top-three finish was how he got there, as an untimely caution after a green-flag pit stop trapped Earnhardt Jr. two laps down with 117 laps to go.  Until that point, the No. 5 Chevy had raced comfortably in the top five and even held the lead for three laps.  But the repercussion of the untimely yellow on lap 183 was a two-lap deficit, to which he coolly climbed out with pit strategy and hard racing.  Electing to stay on-track when the leaders made pit stops, Earnhardt regained one of his laps with the wave around rule.  He then raced his way into free-pass position before the race’s sixth yellow flew at lap 236.  Back on the lead lap and in position to race for what matters, Earnhardt engaged in a terrific three-car battle with Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick for second place.  The driver took second from Harvick on lap 268 but lost his line in the process.  Harvick pushed Junior high, allowing Kahne to slide beneath both and claim the second spot.  The tussle allowed Busch to break away to a sizable lead, and an uncharacteristically long green-flag run to end the race prevented any attempt by Earnhardt or anyone else to overtake it.

“Driving this car was a lot of fun today,” Earnhardt Jr. said in his post-race press conference.  “I’ve got to thank Taxslayer and the R&D (Research and Development) group at Hendrick Motorsports and the guys on my 88 Cup team for helping us out.  I appreciate it a lot.  We were pretty competitive today.  I got a little tight on that last run, and I wish we would’ve had something for those front two guys at the end.  But I had a blast.  Chris Heroy did a great job as crew chief.  He’s a lot of fun to be around.  I wanted to give him a shot since I was only running a few races, and he proved he’s very capable of being a crew chief.  He’s now called two races with finishes of fourth and third.  Not bad.”
