Where do you get the 5-digit Self-Select PIN?
The 5-digit Self-Select PIN is exactly that -- a 5-digit number of your choosing to be used as your "signature" on your returns. It is used to validate the return since you do not physically sign the return when using electronic filing.
If filing a joint return, each spouse can have their own unique PIN. The PIN must be 5 numbers and cannot be all zeros. You will be asked to create your 5-digit Self-Select PIN when completing the e-file process to submit your return electronically.
