What if I am claimed as a dependent on someone else's return?

If you are claimed as a dependent on another tax return, you are required to report to the IRS that you can be claimed as a dependent on another tax return. To accomplish this, from the Basic Information of the return, select Personal Information. Check the box next to the statement: "Check this box if the Taxpayer can be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return."

To locate this area within your TaxSlayer account, from the Welcome Back/My Account page, select Basic Information from the black navigation box followed by Personal Information.

Note: When being claimed as a dependent on another tax return, you are unable to claim your personal exemption. Because of losing this exemption, your amount owed may increase or expected refund may decrease.
