Where is my refund? How can I check the status of my Federal or State refund?

If your return has been accepted and you are expecting a refund, you should be able to check the status of your refund with the IRS or with your state agency.  Below are direct links to the IRS and state websites where you can securely check the status of your refund online.  Before accessing either (online or by phone), be sure that you have the following information available, as it may be required to properly access the status of your refund:

  • Primary Social Security number as listed on the return
  • Date your return was accepted
  • Filing status listed on your accepted return (single, married filing joint, married filing separate, head of household, etc.)
  • Amount of the expected refund as it was reported on the accepted return.

**Please note:  TaxSlayer.com does not at any point handle money involved in refunds.  Checks and direct deposits are sent from the IRS or state agency directly to the taxpayer.  At no point does TaxSlayer.com receive refunds or participate in the refund process.

Federal Refund Status:  If your return has been accepted, in most cases you can quickly and easily determine the date that you should receive your refund by consulting the IRS Refund Cycle Chart.  Click here to view the Refund Cycle Chart.

If you would rather check the status of your refund by using the IRS online application, click the following link:  Where's My Refund?

You can also check the status of your federal refund by phone by calling the IRS Refund Hotline at 1-800-829-1954 (toll free).

State Refund Status:  Some states do not provide online status inquiry.  For these states, automated phone verification is available, and the telephone numbers are provided below.
