Category: Most Common IRS Federal Reject Codes

Reject Codes 0503 & 0523 together LEGACY

If you received both reject codes together, this generally means that the Spouse's Social Security Number was entered incorrectly on the return.

To correct these reject codes: Verify that the correct Spouse Social Security Number, date of birth, and last name were entered within your account. To do this, login to your account at TaxSlayer and click Edit My Return from the "Manage My Account" page. From the "Main Menu", select Personal Information and Name, Address, Age, Occupation. Here you can verify that the information is entered correctly. If an incorrect SSN, last name, or date of birth was entered, make the necessary changes and click "Save and Continue". Once the corrections are made, you can resubmit your return by clicking Send Return Electronically from the "Main Menu".

All information appears to be correct: If it appears that the name, date of birth, and SSN are all entered correctly, you will need to check with your local Social Security Administration office and make sure their records have the correct information on file. It does happen that they have incorrect information on their records, and this could be the cause of your return being rejected. You can contact them by phone at 1-800-772-1213.
