College football weaves with NASCAR in TaxSlayer Bowl
TaxSlayer Bowl-branded NASCAR car debuts this weekend, Earnhardt Jr. confirmed for 2015 bowl game
The speed, athleticism and teamwork inherent in college football and NASCAR merge this year as TaxSlayer.com combines its football and car-racing assets in a series of high-impact promotions.
This Saturday, Aug. 30, at Atlanta Motor Speedway, TaxSlayer Bowl will enter the NASCAR scene as a primary sponsor of Regan Smith’s No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro. On Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, NASCAR marquee driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will mark his fourth consecutive appearance at the TaxSlayer Bowl, driving his iconic No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro into midfield at EverBank Field before flipping the coin to kick off the annual bowl game.
The two events signify a move by online tax preparation firm TaxSlayer.com to cross- promote between its college football and racing entities.
“We saw an opportunity to use our involvement in the TaxSlayer Bowl and NASCAR to bring together fans of these two long-standing traditions,” said Jimmy Rhodes, president and CEO of TaxSlayer.com. “Both draw national crowds and, by interweaving them, we can grow not only excitement for these two events but also the next generation of football and NASCAR fans.”
At 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 30, the TaxSlayer Bowl car will debut at the NASCAR Nationwide Series Great Clips 300 to benefit Feed the Children on ESPN2. Driver Regan Smith will join with other NASCAR stars to battle it out under the stars for 300 miles at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
“I’m truly excited to run the TaxSlayer Bowl Chevy this weekend in Atlanta,” said Regan Smith. “Football and racing are two of my favorite passions and it doesn’t get any better than combining the two, especially on opening weekend of college football. I’ve got to thank our friends at TaxSlayer.com for putting together this program. I know that they are big football fans, too.”
TaxSlayer Bowl is also announcing two contests designed to increase engagement with both football and NASCAR fans and offer them one-of-a-kind merchandise and VIP event access.
• The winner receives a trip for two to the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl, which includes travel, accommodations, a private meet-and-greet with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and two VIP passes to any NASCAR Nationwide Series event
“We are energized by the passion and long-term vision for growth that TaxSlayer.com is bringing to the bowl game,” said Rick Catlett, president and CEO of the TaxSlayer Bowl. “This is a great partnership that will allow the game to maintain its stature on the national level as one of the top-tier bowl games in the country.”
The TaxSlayer Bowl, which will take place Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, will be televised on ESPN and feature a team from the Southeastern Conference that will serve as the anchor team and will face an opponent from the Big Ten Conference or the Atlantic Coast Conference. TaxSlayer Bowl tickets are available at TaxSlayerBowl.com.
