At TaxSlayer, every customer is part of our family. Over the next few weeks, we will post historical information about the company to let you know more about our founding and how we became a leader in tax preparation and filing software.
We will start today with the earliest days of the family-owned company. Then, we will share more about TaxSlayer’s growth in software development. We’ll end our series on TaxSlayer history by letting you know about the important charitable work and sports sponsorships that we continue each year.
Let’s get started!
Family-owned tax services since 1965
TaxSlayer’s robust history began a half-century ago when Aubrey Rhodes Sr. founded Rhodes-Murphy & Co. in Augusta, Georgia. An income tax preparation business dating to 1965 has evolved into an innovative tax preparation and filing software development company that retains its founder’s commitment to a family-owned business and its employees, customers and community.
Rhodes-Murphy & Co. built on early success to modify and enhance the business. In 1980, Aubrey Rhodes Sr. passed away and his son, Jimmy Rhodes, was elected president. Under new leadership, the company added an income tax school to teach potential employees tax preparation skills. Carl Rhodes and Zane D. Christopher Jr. became members of the company’s board of directors in 1984.
