Buyer’s Remorse. The avid shoppers and even the occasional splurgers out there know the feeling all too well. Now, we can’t make any promises but we have some solutions that could turn your guilty pleasure into an overwhelming sense of social responsibility. Below are a few ways to get your retail fix AND give back.
Tribe Alive states so clearly and eloquently that their plan is to “utilize a passion for fashion and responsible commerce as a platform to help alleviate poverty among women”. Made up of two inspiring young women looking to change the world, Tribe Alive is currently working with non-profits on a global scale as a helping hand in lending fair and safe employment for impoverished and marginalized women. Their hope is to, by providing them fair trade wages and access to a sustainable income, extend an opportunity for these women to determine their own future.
Their product offering is primarily focused on women’s non-apparel, jewelry, handbags and more. The Tribe Alive site goes live on November 1, 2014, so there’s still time to get your hands on some beautiful homemade items before the rest of the world can. RUN, don’t walk to your computer and be a part of the action happening at Tribe Alive.

If you’re an Amazon junkie (and even if you’re not), you’re going to want to join. When you begin registration for Amazon Smile, you’ll be prompted to select an organization of your choice from the extremely robust list of eligible charities. When you begin to shop, make sure that you’re logged in to your Amazon Smile account and for every eligible purchase you make, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to the selected charitable organization. Did we mention the sign up is painless and completely free for all parties involved? Now go and shop your hearts out!
Since 2006, TOMS Shoes has promised that for every pair of shoes purchased, they would be donating a pair to a child in need. Have enough shoes (as if there were such a thing)? Don’t worry, they’ve crafted new ways to help. Expanding on their One for One motto, they’ve included Toms Eyewear and TOMS Roasting Co. in their mission to positively impact global communities. These additions will help to restore eyesight or provide one week of clean water, respectively, for each purchase made. If I had to describe this brand in two words: cute and comfortable. Take a look for yourself!

If these charitable organizations aren’t in your wheelhouse, odds are there is a movement out there you can get behind. Don’t forget to do your research beforehand because you may be overlooking a way to make the most of your contribution. A wise man once said, “people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do”. Cheers to the crazy ones!
