What happens if I enter incorrect banking information?
IMPORTANT NOTE: Once a return is accepted, you cannot edit the banking information that will be used to process your refund or amount due. Once it is accepted, the IRS and/or state will begin to process your return and this generally cannot be stopped. If you wish, you can contact your state or the IRS directly to find out if there is anything that you can do. However, once the IRS or state has your return and is processing it, TaxSlayer cannot transmit any new data to them or stop the processing of the current return.
If you are getting a refund: If you are expecting a refund, the IRS and/or your state(s) will first attempt to deposit your refund based on the banking information you provided. If the information that was entered was invalid or incorrect, the bank should refuse the deposit. At that time, the IRS and/or state(s) should then issue a check to you for the amount of your refund. The check will be mailed to the mailing address listed on your filed return.
If you have an amount due: The IRS will attempt to make the withdrawal based on the banking information that you provided. If the account information is incorrect, the bank should refuse the debit. At that point, you must pay your amount due by mailing in your payment or making the payment online at IRS.gov/Payments or to your State's Dept. of Revenue at "how to pay your state" . This payment must be post marked or received by the due date so that you do not incur penalties and interest.
To print the payment voucher from the program, simply go to the summary page, view the pdf and print the return. Detach the voucher and mail it, along with your payment, to the address that is provided. If the amount is not paid the IRS will send you a bill for the amount owed.
