What if I am claimed as a dependent on someone else's return?

If you are claimed as a dependent on another tax return, you are required to report to the IRS that you can be claimed as a dependent on another tax return. To accomplish this, from the Basic Information of the return, select Personal Information. Check the box next to the statement: "Check this box if the Taxpayer can be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return."

To locate this area within your TaxSlayer account, from the Your Account page, select Basic Information from the left side navigation bar followed by Personal Information.

Note: When being claimed as a dependent on another tax return, you are unable to claim your personal exemption. Because of losing this exemption, your amount owed may increase or expected refund may decrease.
